The etymology is the old Finnish epithet for Russian people, ryssä. The verb ryssiä conveys a message that the Russian people can only make a mess of things and create chaos and negativity.

The word conveys the message that Russian people are on a lower position in the social hierarchy and that the identity of troublemaker is attached to Russians. The expression connotes a message that when someone makes a mistake, he or she is as stupid as a Russian person. There is still a tendency in Finland to undermine Russian people in racist terms although this is not easily condoned in the general public discourse today.

Johdettu vanhasta venäläisiin ihmisiin liitetystä epiteetistä “ryssä”. Verbinä sana vihjaa, että venäläiset kykenevät saamaan aikaan sotkua ja kaaosta. Venäläisiin liitetään näin ongelman aiheuttajan identiteetti, joka sitten pahantahtoisesti liitetään kehen tahansa, joka tekee virheitä.


A kifejezés az orosz emberekre használt régi finn jelzőből (ryssä) származik. A ryssiä ige azt az üzenetet hordozza, hogy az orosz emberek csak elrontják dolgokat, káoszt és bajt csinálnak. A bajkeverő jellemvonást az oroszokkal azonosítja. A kifejezés arra utal, hogy ha valaki valamilyen hibát vét az olyan ostoba, mint egy orosz.

L'etimologia della parola in lingua originale è il vecchio epiteto finlandese usato per le persone russe, Ryssa. Il verbo Ryssia trasmette un messaggio: il popolo russo può solo fare una gran confusione, creando caos e negatività. L'identità dei piantagrane è dunque collegata alla nazionalità russa. L'espressione connota il messaggio che se qualcuno commette un errore, quest’ultimo sia stupido come un russo.

Etimološko povezano s finsko besedo za Ruse, glagol ryssiä prinaša sporočilo, da ruski ljudje delajo samo zmedo in ustvarjajo kaos in negativnost. Incidenti se tako vedno pripišejo Rusom. Izraz sporoča, da ko nekdo naredi napako, je neumen kot Rus.
